Christians and atheists, what are your thoughts on theistic evolution?

Can Christianity be reconciled with the science of evolution? Are Christians doomed to forever be seen as stupid or uneducated by the scientific community in general? Is there any way that we can bring these two views together? If you say that literal 6-day Creationism is true, then please defend your opinion and explain why theistic evolution is impossible. I am currently on the fence on this issue and it is driving me insane...
